Our two hour drive from Petra to Aqaba where our jet was put us on a short flight to Turkey. Arriving at noonish we checked through customs and began an afternoon of sightseeing. The principle feature of the area is a collection of Hobbit-like caves carved in volcanic mini- mountains. The caves were used as residences, churches and places to hide from invaders. The Anastasi Indians built dwellings in cliff faces but they are nothing like these caves. A real spectacle. Some of the caves are still lived in by people who have inherited them from family. Other caves are used as hotels, shops, and storage facilities. In fact, there are also whole cities, dug as much as 11 stories down, all interconnected like an ant hive.

Our hotel is again really unique. It is built in one of the larger volcanic upheavals and is a reconstruction of an earlier dwelling. It is quite splendid and somewhat unbelievable. It is called the Museum Hotel because every suite is decorated with antiques from all over the world. Our room is a three story suite with the bedroom upstairs, a sitting room on the main floor and a huge bath a story down. We also have a rose garden out front, which is on a terrace that overlooks a large area of these volcanic cone homes.

We then head for London this afternoon, of course arrive late, will have a bite to eat, repack our bags (our large bags will be shipped) and head for the airport and home on April 1 in the morning.
